Top 5 Food Experiences in North East Victoria

North East Victoria is fast becoming a gourmet food mecca.  The story of the reformation of the region from tobacco and logging to food and wine is an interesting one, perhaps for another post, but here we want to give you our top 5 food experiences in North East Victoria.

Our list does vary: from restaurants to wineries, from farm gates to breweries, so we like to think there is something for everyone!

Top 5 Food Experiences in North East Victoria
  1. The Provenance, Beechworth.  OK, an obvious one, having been nominated by The Age Good Food Guide as having the Best Regional Wine List in Australia and picking up Two Hats in the process.
  2. The Butter Factory, Myrtleford. A real up and comer.  Find out why the top restaurants are using their butter. Buy the Black Truffle butter and put it on roasted potatoes. Trust us!
  3. The Milawa Cheese Company, Milawa.  If you travel to north east Victoria and don’t stop here, AND try the goats cheese, then you have missed a real food experience.
  4. Simones Restaurant, Bright.  Not only did Simones Restaurant  made the shortlist for this year’s The Age Good Food Guide but also scored one chef’s hat. There is also a Cooking School.  An essential visit whilst in north east Victoria.
  5. Bridge Road Brewery, Beechworth.  OK, so not the normal refined definition of ‘gourmet’ or fine food, but the pizzas at the Bridge Road Brewery are superb, not to mention their fine assortment of brewed beers.  A Sunday afternoon institution for the locals.

The above is only a brief list, there are so many food experiences in north east Victoria to be had.
