Adventure Travel in Style – Hot Dozen List
Adventure travel has been around a long time. But there is a new style of adventure that is taking a strong foothold from traditional travel styles. Soft adventure experiences in style is a rapidly growing form of travel, fuelled largely by our increasing desire for more immersive and real local experiences and cultural contact.
The New Adventure Travel Defined
This style of travel has in the past been the domain of more hardy souls. Images of remote trekking in compromising weather conditions, small tents, arduous overland expeditions and little if any support was the norm. This has changed. ‘Adventure travel’ now includes more gentile activities such as cycling, trekking, kayaking, and even swimming trips. The appeal has grown due to the realisation that this method of travel provides an excellent means to experience up close the local culture, its’ people, the landscapes and perhaps for some most importantly, the local cuisine! The more traditional method of tour travel in buses, coaches, planes and cars doesn’t provide the traveller with that up close an personal destination experience.
Fairfax’s Traveller lift-out recently compiled a ‘Hot Dozen’ list of adventure travel trips that tick both the soft activity requirement but do it in style. It’s an incredible list of journeys based on an activity, but with a touch of class. Trips range across Asia, Europe, Americas and Australia.
The 5 day cycling adventure in North East Victoria called the Tour de Grand Gourmet was named as the (only) adventure travel trip for the Australia region, and yes we are chuffed! And what an amazing dozen it is, from Komodo Kayaking in Indonesia, camel trekking in Gobi Mongolia, horse riding in Argentina to cycling in Croatia, there is something for everyone on this list. And it’s all done with a touch of luxury and style.
You can see the whole list of adventure trips on the Fairfax Traveller website.
