A stunning coastal getaway
The New South Wales south coast is famous for raw, uncrowded beaches, whale watching and quaint country towns. Explore this coastal gem riding the scenic cycling paths with your Ebike that follow the coastline, whilst having all the logistics looked after for you.
This cycling tour is an easy self-guided 4-day/3 night ride along the beautiful south coast of NSW. Within each reach of Sydney, starting in the beautiful beachside suburb of Thirroul and following the coast south to the dramatic headland and lighthouse in Kiama. The route is primarily flat and runs mainly along cycle paths, and there is plenty to see and do along the way. Using your included ebike this cycling tour is an ideal mini getaway.
The start point of Thirroul is easily accessed from Sydney, via a scenic train, and saves the trouble of driving and car parking (which you are of course welcome to do). We will meet you at the train station, collect your bags and get you ready for your scenic ebike ride to Wollongong on day 1.
E-bikes are perfect for this cycling tour, and whilst mainly flat there are a couple of short hills on the last day of riding on the way into Kiama. You are welcome to BYO your bike if preferred.
This cycling tour will take you along the gorgeous shoreline of the southern Sydney beaches and around the scenic Lake Illawarra. The ride includes an optional visit to the Nan Tien Buddhist Temple, and passes the dramatic Bombo Headland Geological Site, both well worth exploring. There is also the small but delightful Puckey's Estate Nature Reserve, a gorgeous inlet teeming with birdlife.

Why Travel with Tour de Vines?
Tour de Vines has been awarded Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and recently 2024 (that's 10 years in a row!), so you can be assured of great service and a wonderful cycling tour.
Self Guided Cycling
Self guided cycling tours do require participants to be adaptable and able to solve issues whilst on tour. On call support is included in your tour, but it is expected that you will know how to repair punctures and make minor adjustments to gears, handlebars and seats if required, and if bringing your own bike then this is expected. For anything more serious, we will be able to assist with a call to our 1300 665 330 number at any time during your trip. You should be able to read a map and follow directions, either on a device or a printed map (supplied) and that you have a good sense of direction. Getting a little bit lost, or having to ask locals for directions is all part of choosing to travel on a self guided basis. The maps and directions provided to you is updated regularly and tailored to your specific trip (hotels, restaurants are noted, and marked). If this is something that makes your nervous or uncertain, or if you know for sure that you can’t fix a puncture or aren’t confident reading a map, then we do recommend our extensive range of small group fully guided tours where all the stress of navigation, bike maintenance and logistics are all done for you. However, if comfortable with this then the freedom of a self guided cycling trip is wonderful, and once confident can be the preferred choice across our range of cycling tours.
Easy riding, great track from Thirroul and so many gorgeous beaches. Windang was such a surprise and the beach is stunning, recommend getting there early to enjoy this little paradise. So many cafes and restaurants along the way made it easy, and the accommodation was spot on. What a great trip!
