☔ What happens if it rains during my cycling tour?
Your comfort and safety come first. Since these are outdoor experiences, occasional showers are part of the adventure — but we have you covered if the weather turns:
- Multi-day tours: If it’s unsafe to ride, we may cancel your tour in advance and issue a refund. If you're already on the tour and the weather changes, our support team will transport you to meals, tastings, and your accommodation, so you can still enjoy the full experience.
- Day tours: You'll be notified 24 hours in advance if the tour will proceed. If we cancel due to heavy rain, you’ll receive a full refund or credit for a future tour.
We don’t cancel for light showers or drizzle, so be sure to bring a light rain jacket just in case!
🌡️ What if it's too hot to ride?
Some regions, like Victoria or Queensland in summer, can get hot. We don’t use a fixed temperature to cancel tours — instead, we make decisions based on local conditions and your safety.
If the heat becomes extreme or unsafe, we’ll adapt the tour using our support vehicles to reduce time on the bike, or cancel only if absolutely necessary. As always, bring sun protection and stay hydrated.
🚲 Can I use a gel seat cover?
Yes — you’re welcome to bring your own gel seat cover. We don’t supply them, but they’re a great comfort boost on longer rides.
📏 What size seat should I get a gel pad for?
Most gel seat covers stretch to fit or come with drawstrings. For reference:
- Hybrid bikes: Bontrager Sportbike Saddle – 275mm x 163mm
- E-bikes: Velectrix Urban Seat – 250mm x 220mm
🔧 Will you support my personal bike if something goes wrong?
If you’re riding your own bike, we’ll help with any major mechanical issues — just call us. For minor repairs like flat tyres or tube replacements, you’ll need to bring your own spares and tools.
📄 Can I get a separate invoice for my booking?
For group bookings, our system creates one invoice for the full balance. If you need individual invoices, we can split the booking — but this removes any group discount. Let us know your preference!
💸 Why is there a change fee?
Change fees cover the extra time and coordination needed when you adjust your booking. Changes like dates, group size, or accommodation often require us to cancel and rebook everything — and we keep our base prices low by not building that flexibility into the cost.
📆 Can I make a last-minute booking?
Yes, we can accept last minute booking. If travelling within 30 days just note:
- Full payment is required at the time of booking
- We aren't able to send a physical Tour Kits (printed itinerary, t-shirt, water bottle) for last-minute bookings
- If you’d still like the kit, we can send it for $25 per person — though we can’t guarantee it will arrive in time, but you will have those items when you return
🎒 What should I pack for my cycling tour?
We recommend packing for a range of weather and conditions. Essentials include:
- Sunscreen, sunglasses, and hat
- I fpossible padded shorts and gloves do add to your comfort whilst riding
- Spray jacket (even in warm months)
- Lightweight neck buff for sun protection
- Casual evening wear (with a warm layer)
- Repair gear if bringing your own bike
- Bring your own helmet if at all possible (we can supply but always preferable to use your own helmet and we can't guarantee fit)
- Phone, camera, access to money
- A reusable water bottle is included in your tour
- Our hire bikes do include pannier bags or bring a day pack if BYO bike
- Don't forget your sense of adventure
🔄 Can I bring my own clip-in pedals?
Absolutely. All our bikes have standard flat pedals, but if you prefer to use clip-in pedals and shoes, feel free to bring them. We’ll help install them if compatible — just note we can’t guarantee they’ll fit every bike.
🍷 Do I need vouchers for included meals?
Nope — you're all set. Any included meals are pre-booked under your name, with details outlined in your itinerary. Just arrive at the venue on time. If you're running late or unsure, please contact the venue directly or call us.
🚴 What's the difference between a guided tour and a self guided tour?
A guided tour is fully hosted with a local guide cycling with you, organising logistics, sharing insights and interpretations, and ensuring everything runs smoothly. They are normally very social affairs and guests often become friends after a Tour de Vines' group tour.
A self guided tour gives you more independence — you’ll still have your accommodation, bike hire, route notes, maps, and support, but you ride at your own pace without a guide present. Both options include full backup and luggage transfers.
You can read our Blog Post on more in depth discussion on the differences between these 2 styles of cycling tours.
🧳 Do you move my luggage on a self guided tour or do I need to carry it?
You don’t need to carry your own luggage on any of our self guided cycling tours. We transfer your bags each day between accommodations, so you can enjoy the ride without extra weight.
Our hire bikes do include small pannier bags to carry your incidentals needed for your day out cycling.
📅 Can you advise availability for a self guided tour on specific dates?
For self guided cycling tours, accommodation is not able to be prebooked. To enable us to check and book accommodation for your preferred dates, we do request a deposit. Once we received we are able to start the process of checking and booking all the elements for your tour including accommodation. If we are unable to find suitable accommodation for your preferred dates we will advise alternative properties or dates that are available. IF this doesn't suit your plans, your deposit is 100% refunded.
💬 What is your refund policy if I need to cancel?
We understand plans can change. REfunds do depend on what destination you are booking so we strongly recommend checking the terms for each region.
For our Australian multi day cycling tours, here's how our cancellation and refund policy works:
61 or more | Full refund (transfer policy can be applied, see below) |
60-31 | 50% of tour price |
30 - 0 | 100% of the tour price; 20% of the tour price may be placed on account to be used for travel prior to December 31 of the following year on Australian departures only. |
We strongly recommend taking out travel insurance at the time of booking to cover unforeseen events which would normally include illness, or other reasons that you may need to cancel a booking.

🛫 What time is the pick-up from Bright on a Murray to Mountains Rail Trail cycling tour?
The standard pick up time from Bright on all our Murray to Mountains Rail Trail cycling tours return transfers is 12pm midday. Alternate times may be provided upon request and may be subject to an additional fee. This transfer may be shared with other guests and we do this to keep your tour cost as low as possible.
The drive back to Beechworth is around 1hr. The drive to Wangaratta train station is about 1hr 20mins and incurs an extra fee.
The drive to Albury Airport takes around 1.5 hours and incurs an extra fee
Alternatively, there’s an infrequent public bus service from Bright to Beechworth and on to Wangaratta and Beechworth to Albury, with taxis available from the bus stop in Albury to the airport. Expect this to take at least 2.5 hrs.
🧳 Can I store my bag in Beechworth before check-in?
Yes, most of our accommodation partners in Beechworth are happy to store your luggage if you arrive before check-in (usually around 2pm). Just ask at reception when you arrive.
🚗 Where can I park in Beechworth while I’m cycling?
There’s ample street parking in Beechworth, but we recommend parking directly outside the local police station on William St. It’s across from the Old Beechworth Gaol — the start and end point of your cycling tour — and it’s a safe, central spot.
🚴 Can I extend the cycling on some days?
Yes! On self guided tours, you're free to ride more if you wish. Optional extra rides are possible on your arrival and final days. We often recommend riding to Wandiligong or Harrietville on the last day before your pickup. You’ll have printed maps and can easily navigate alternate routes. Support is always just a phone call away.
🏨 What accommodations are used on the Victoria tours?
Accommodation varies by tour and season and group size but typically includes:
- Beechworth: Armour Motor Inn or Freeman on Ford (upgrade)
- Milawa: Lindenwarrah Resort
- Myrtleford: Motel on Alpine or Panoramia Villas (upgrade)
- Bright: Bright on Track, Bright Colonial Motor Inn, or Centenary Peaks Townhouses (upgrade)
Upgrades incur a supplement.
🚲 How much is bike hire and do you have step-through frames?
Bikes can be hired on all of our cycling tours and the rates vary depending on your length of tour. In Victoria we use Trek FX hybrid bikes and a mix of Trek and Velectrix ebikes. All hire bikes include full support. If anything goes wrong, we repair or replace your bike so your ride isn’t disrupted. We have limited step-through frame models and offer a full range of sizes (S to XL). Let us know your preference when booking.
See more about our bikes here.
📍 How much does bike hire cost on the Pedal to Produce day tour?
For the Pedal to Produce cycling day tour from Beechworth:
- Hybrid bikes: $10
- E-bikes: +$25
All bikes include water bottle cages, pannier bags, and rear racks — ideal for carrying produce and gear. This tour also includes pick up of purchases if you buy wine or produce along the ride.
🛣️ Is the Murray to Mountains trail suitable for road bikes?
The Murray to Mountains rail trail is sealed (tarred) throughout, so road bikes can be used. However, there are occasional bumps and debris, so we recommend bringing puncture repair gear if you’re using thin tyres which can be prone to punctures.
For maximum comfort, we suggest a commuter-style or hybrid bike with a mininimum 32' width tyre for comfort and puncture resistance.
Check our Ultimate Guide to the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail for further reading.
📆 Do I need to pre-book bike hire?
Yes, we strongly recommend booking your bike in advance. Our fleet whilst large is limited, especially during busy periods, and common sizes can book out early. Be sure to let us know your height and preferred bike type when booking.
👥 Are group discounts available?
Yes — we offer group discounts when the booking and deposit are made as a single payment for the group. If each person pays individually, the group discount does not apply. Group pricing is listed on each tour page, and we can tailor pricing for private groups depending on your needs.

South Australia Cycling Tour FAQs
- What accommodation is used on South Australia tours?
- Do you transport the bikes between regions?
- Can I book the Barossa & Clare tour without Adelaide accommodation?
- Is there much riding on roads on the SA Vineyards tour?
- Do you provide car parking in Adelaide?
- Can I store my own bike securely in Adelaide?
🏨 What accommodation is used on South Australia cycling tours?
Accommodation on Tour de Vines' cycling tours in South Australia varies depending on your dates and group size, but as a guide we typically use:
- Adelaide: Playford Hotel
- Barossa: Novotel Resort or Barossa Weintal
- Auburn: Rising Sun Hotel (occasionally) or local BnB
- Clare: Clare Valley Country Club
- Hahndorf: The Manna or Hahndorf Apartments
🚐 Do you transport the bikes between regions?
Yes. On self guided cycling tours, we arrange bikes to be available in each destination so you don’t need to transport them yourself. This makes travel between Barossa, Clare Valley, McLaren Vale, and the Adelaide Hills easier. If you prefer to bring your own bike, you're responsible for moving it between regions.
We also offer fully arranged transport (for you and bikes) for an additional fee — ideal for groups.
🛏️ Can I book the Barossa & Clare tour without Adelaide accommodation?
Yes, we can run the Barossa and Clare Valley tour without including Adelaide accommodation. However, this turns the package into a custom itinerary, which adds a $100 per person planning fee. It’s usually better value to keep the included accommodation unless you have firm alternate plans.
🚴♀️ Is there much riding on roads on the SA Vineyards tour?
Our South Australian cycling tours are very much designed to avoid road cycling. We specifically choose the regions we travel in due to the cycling trails in those areas, including:
- Barossa Trail (off-road)
- Riesling Rail Trail (Clare Valley)
- Amy Gillett Trail (Adelaide Hills)
- Shiraz Trail (McLaren Vale)
There are a few short sections on quiet local roads, such as riding through Tanunda in the Barossa. If on a guided tour your guide will brief you on safety, and road use is kept to a minimum. If you're a confident group and conditions allow, some optional road riding may be added.
🅿️ Do you provide car parking in Adelaide?
Our partner property The Playford Hotel in Adelaide offers overnight self-parking for $30 per day (with multiple entries/exits) and valet parking for $60 per day. Additional public parking options are available nearby. Please arrange and pay for parking directly with your hotel.
🔒 Can I store my own bike securely in Adelaide?
Yes, to a point. Our partner property in Adelaide The Playford Hotel has a small concierge room that can accommodate up to two bikes. There are also bike bays in the hotel’s car park, so if you bring a lock, you can secure your bike overnight. We recommend advising us in advance if you’re bringing your own bike so we can help you plan accordingly.

Tasmania Cycling Tour FAQs
- Do the bikes have racks for carrying gear?
- Can I access my luggage during the day?
- Is the cycling in Tasmania hilly?
- What kind of bike is suitable for this tour?
- What is the traffic like on the roads we cycle?
- Why does the tour go from Launceston to Hobart?
- What’s the weather like in late February or March?
- Can I get a transfer from Hobart to Launceston?
🧳 Do the hire bikes have racks for carrying gear?
Yes, all our hire bikes are equipped with rear racks and pannier bags, so you can easily carry a rain jacket, snacks, or other small items while riding.
🎒 Can I access my luggage during the day whilst out cycling?
The support van carries your luggage and is nearby throughout the day. In special cases, you can access your bags — but we recommend keeping anything you may need during the ride in your pannier bag to avoid delays or disruption.
⛰️ Is the cycling in Tasmania hilly?
There are some hills on this itinerary, and we have graded this cycling tour as intermediate to challenging (on a regular bike) or intermeidate on an ebike.
That said, the support van is always close by and can transfer you past any climbs you’d rather skip. Day 1 is a gentle warm-up on the North East Rail Trail. After that, the terrain varies, with most riding on quiet sealed roads.
If you’re unsure, we strongly recommend using an e-bike. It makes the trip far more enjoyable and accessible for most riders.
🚴 What kind of bike is suitable for this tour?
A hybrid or gravel bike is ideal. While most of the route is sealed, there are sections of hard-packed gravel. Road bikes with thin tyres aren’t recommended due to comfort and potential punctures. Mountain bikes are fine too, though heavier than necessary.
🚗 What is the traffic like on the roads we cycle?
We’ve designed the itinerary to avoid busy roads as much as possible. Day 1 is entirely off-road, and Day 6 is mostly quiet backcountry roads into Hobart. You will ride short sections on the Tasman Highway, which can have traffic, but we choose stretches with good shoulder and use our support vehicle to increase visibility and safety.
🧭 Why does the cycling tour go from Launceston to Hobart?
This direction is chosen to take advantage of Tasmania’s prevailing winds (usually from the north) and to keep you on the scenic coastal side of the road. You’ll also finish in Hobart, making it easier to extend your trip with post-tour options.
🌤️ What’s the weather like in Tasmania late February or March?
Tasmania’s weather is highly variable. Late February and March are generally good months to travel, but conditions can range from hot and sunny to cool and rainy — sometimes in the same week. Prepare for all weather by packing both lightweight gear and warm layers, including rain protection.
🚐 Can I get a transfer from Hobart to Launceston at the end of the cycling tour?
Yes. Our tour vehicle returns to Launceston at the end of the tour, and you may be able to join this transfer. However, departure times are not fixed and may not suit all schedules. Alternatively, there are regular coach services between Hobart and Launceston, or you can hire a car and return it at either end.

Queensland Cycling Tour FAQs
- What’s the best time of year to cycle in Queensland?
- What’s the cycling terrain like on the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail?
- How difficult is the BVRT tour?
- Is the BVRT safe for cycling?
🌞 What’s the best time of year to cycle in Queensland?
Queensland is vast and its climate varies widely. For our cycling tours in south-east Queensland (e.g. Brisbane Valley Rail Trail), the best time to ride is during the cooler, drier months from April to October. Summers can be very hot and humid, and the region can receive heavy rainfall or monsoonal weather from November through to March. If riding in winter, pack warm clothes — overnight temperatures can drop below zero in some inland areas.
🚴 What’s the cycling terrain like on the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail?
The BVRT is a converted rail trail with a mix of gravel, compacted earth, and some loose sandy sections. It’s not technical, but you’ll be more comfortable on a mountain bike or hybrid with wider tyres. We don’t recommend road bikes for this trail.
📏 How difficult is the BVRT tour?
Our Brisbane Valley Rail Trail tour is suitable for most riders with a moderate level of fitness. There are no steep hills, but the distance and gravel surface can be tiring. Using an e-bike makes it much more accessible. We provide support throughout the ride in case you need a break or assistance.
🛟 Is the BVRT safe for cycling?
Yes — the entire trail is off-road, with no vehicle traffic. It’s a peaceful and safe ride through Queensland’s countryside. There are lots of towns and places to stop along the way, but we still recommend carrying hydration, especially during warmer months.

- What’s the cycling route like on the NSW South Coast tour?
- What kind of bike is best for the NSW South Coast ride?
- Is this tour suitable for beginner cyclists?

We recommend taking the train from Sydney — it’s an easy trip to Thirroul, where your ride begins. We meet you there, transfer your luggage, and you cycle to Wollongong for your first night.
If you choose to drive, you have two options:
- Thirroul Station: Free open car park (not monitored)

🌊 What’s the cycling route like on the NSW South Coast tour?
This tour follows a stunning coastal route from Thirroul to Kiama, with a mix of bike paths, shared cycleways, and quiet roads. Expect scenic beachside riding, short hills, and some on-road sections with low traffic. It’s a relaxed ride with plenty of photo stops.
🚲 What kind of bike is best for the NSW South Coast ride?
